Seventy Nine

Another day of summer, another day of playing out on the fields.
With so much time and a smile that is mine, no need to return for meals.
Because the sunshine was hot, and the grass was fresh and green.
And it rained , not a lot, while making memories was the best that I'd seen.

Seventy eight when the music was great and the sense of dress was the worse that I've known.
Then came seventy nine when the music was fine and we lay in the woods all alone.
Singing all the songs from Gary Newman to Queen cos they're the ones I remember so sweet.

The six weeks that we played seemed to drag and to drag,
Until the end when we knew, they're the best that we'd had
Dancing with twins and fighting with the boys, screaming and laughing while just making noise.
Then the end of an era starting secondary school, Park High in September and B I secondary school.
Football and rugby, golf and then three man hunt. The village of Bidston, what a joy to grow up on the Wirral.

Seventy eight when the music was great and the sense of dress was the worse that I've known.
Then came seventy nine when the music was fine and we lay in the woods all alone.
Singing all the songs from Gary Newman to Queen cos they're the ones I remember so sweet.

The six weeks that we played seemed to drag and to drag,
Until the end when we knew, they're the best that we'd had .
With my coat for a post, playing single F A,
Until we fell to our knees cos we hadn't had a drink all day.

(Chorus)

Seventy eight when the music was great and the sense of dress was the worse that I've known.
Then came seventy nine when the music was fine and we lay in the woods all alone.
Singing all the songs from Gary Newman to Queen cos they're the ones I remember so sweet.

(bridge)
at the end of our time we knew we'd go back to school,
But we thought that the days would go on.
Laughing and shouting and playing with friends,
We thought it would go on and on.

(chorus)

Seventy eight when the music was great and the sense of dress was the worse that I've known.
Then came seventy nine when the music was fine and we lay in the woods all alone.
Singing all the songs from Gary Newman to Queen cos they're the ones I remember so sweet.

(chorus)

Seventy eight when the music was great and the sense of dress was the worse that I've known.
Then came seventy nine when the music was fine and we lay in the woods all alone.
Singing all the songs from Gary Newman to Queen cos they're the ones I remember so sweet.
